Young People’s Education : Post 16 and Post 19
“The National Executive Committee of the FLSE is united in supporting Malcolm Reeve, Chief Executive of Columbus School and College in Chelmsford, over his brave and moral stance in championing the cause of young people’s education post-16 and post-19.
We admire his moral, ground-breaking and professional leadership for this group of young people for whom there is sadly no appropriate provision post-school and, as a result of this, become ‘NEETs’ – (Not in Education, Employment, or Training).
In order to get some idea of the national picture regarding this issue, we are asking regional members to indicate how many of the students leaving their schools this year will become ‘NEETs’ and how many will have an appropriate placement. The use of the word ‘appropriate’ is very important as many young people will be offered places which then break down and leave them isolated from their peers and back home with hard-pressed families. This evidence will form part of our discussions with the DfE about 19-25 opportunities.
