One of the parents at my school is currently pursuing a test case about the cessation of statements at 19 years of age. He is worried about his daughter and her future and wants to maintain the statement post-19 in order to ensure that her needs are met. Essex County Council are resisting this move at the court of tribunal.

On 20th July I was invited to attend a briefing on special schools and academies at Oasis Academy, Croydon. At the meeting I found that about thirty-five headteachers of outstanding special schools around the country were attending together with representatives from the DfE.
